Below you will find a complete list of all the webinars currently available in our system. In most cases, these webinars are live events that will take place in the very near future. However, some may also be events that are simply recordings of previous webinars that we have chosen to make available again. If the webinar is a recorded version only, it will be noted as such in the title.

Efficiency and Accuracy, Part 1

Get It Done! Expedite Transcript Delivery.

Live Webinar:     Wed, Jun 14th, 2017 8:30 pm EST

Recording:          Yes, 10 days after live event occurs

Presented By:     Michael Starkman

Webinar Price:    $49

CEUs Available:   .2

Webinar Quick Overview

Wouldn't it be nice to complete all of your post-editing tasks with just two clicks of the mouse? Of course it would, and that's exactly what the Delivery feature enables you to do. Print, create ASCIIs, make PDFs, make multi-page transcripts, send and attach files to email, copy or move files and more, all with just a couple of clicks. Michael will show us just how simple it is to set up and use.

Next he'll show us the powerful and versatile Output to PDF feature, which dramatically expands and increases what's contained in your PDF files. We think of PDFs as words captured and frozen in place on a digital page for our clients to read, but they can be so much more, and Michael will teach us how to get the most out of them.

Michael will finish up the webinar with a discussion about the File Locations feature, a little-known secret that can save lots of time and help you organize Eclipse for more productivity.

Join us and take file management to the next level. Automate. Organize. Save Time.

Unlocking the Power of Eclipse Dictionaries

Live Webinar:     Tue, Jun 27th, 2017 8:30 pm EST

Recording:          Yes, 10 days after live event occurs

Presented By:     Keith Vincent

Webinar Price:    $49

CEUs Available:   .2

Webinar Quick Overview

You probably wouldn't drive a car without adjusting the mirrors, the seats, maybe the air conditioning and the radio.  Neither should you use a powerful CAT program like Eclipse without learning to fine-tune it to your needs. This is especially true of the dictionary because it determines the quality of your translation and thus the amount of editing that you'll have to do to deliver your transcripts.

Keith will start by demonstrating the tools that Eclipse offers to help find, see, and edit your dictionary entries. We're betting that there will be discoveries here even for experienced Eclipse users. He'll then illustrate the dictionary grooming process and show how to use the right syntax, which has a huge impact.  After 25 years of using Eclipse and working closely with programmer Jeremy Thorne, Keith has a wealth of experience and incredibly useful tips to share.

Webinar Quick Overview

Eclipse V8 is a brand new version, but like all new versions of this incomparable CAT software, it preserves virtually all of what was in V7. Instead of changing the look, feel, and command structure--leaving users frustrated and bewildered--Jeremy adds new features and functionality, leaving intact what's already there.

Michael Starkman is going to present Part 1, and he'll review some important enhancements to the Connection Magic feature, the new paragraph status system, PDF export feature for proofreading on any platform, improvements to Auto-brief, Number Conversion, and more.

Instead of changing the look, feel, and command structure--leaving users frustrated and bewildered--Jeremy adds new features and functionality, leaving intact what's already there.

Some of the most important changes in Eclipse 8 are almost invisible.  Thus, in the second part of this two-part webinar suite, Keith Vincent will demonstrate how the use of Connection Magic functions like Team Editing and auto-refreshing of Bridge and Bridge Mobile client screens have been made both easier and more powerful.  He'll also demonstrate several features that are very visible because they take advantage of background colors to convey important information about the editing and production process.

Translation Tuning and Predictability in Eclipse - Part 1

Live Webinar:     Tue, Jun 21st, 2016 8:30 pm EST

Translation Tuning and Predictability in Eclipse - Part 1

Our users love the many inventive and time-saving things Eclipse does for them using what we call our "AI" features. Prefixes and suffixes attach and correctly adjust spelling, Auto-brief suggests easy-to-stroke briefs on the fly, conflicts resolve accurately, Translation Magic fixes multi-stroke misstrokes, numbers convert beautifully, and more. It's truly spectacular stuff.

All of these wonderful features can be tweaked and tuned to work better with your preferences and writing style, and that's why Jeremy, Keith, and Michael have put together this webinar suite. The first thing to know is which features are 100% predictable and therefore able to yield certain and stable results, and which rely on probability to generate statistically likely, but not 100% predictable, translations. Jeremy will lead off this series with a detailed overview of the AI feature set, explaining which ones belong to each of these two categories and why.

Join Jeremy Thorne, the creator of Eclipse, along with Keith Vincent and Michael Starkman as they show you how to get the most out of Eclipse!

Webinar Quick Overview

Translation Tuning and Predictability in Eclipse - Part 2

Our users love the many clever and inventive things Eclipse does for them using what we call our "AI" features. Prefixes and suffixes attach and correctly adjust spelling, Auto-brief suggests easy-to-stroke briefs on the fly, conflicts resolve accurately, Translation Magic fixes multi-stroke mistrokes, numbers convert beautfully, and more. It's truly spectacular stuff.

All of these wonderful features can be tweaked and tuned to work better with your preferences and writing style, and that's why Jeremy, Keith, and Michael have put together this webinar suite. Following Jeremy's overview, Michael will delve into the ways and workings of the much-loved but often-misunderstood Automatic Number Conversion feature. Seldom does a week go by when we don't see a post in Facebook by a reporter lamenting a problem with his or her numbers. These postings always end the same way, with a cry for help because the reporter doesn't know how to fix the problem. Number Conversion is a predictable feature, which means that once we learn how it works, we can get exactly the results we want—and expect. Best of all, it's easy to learn how to set up and control your numbers using this feature. Michael will show you how.

Join Michael Starkman, along with Keith Vincent and Jeremy Thorne, the creator of Eclipse, as they show you how to get the most out of Eclipse!

Translation Tuning and Predictability in Eclipse - Part 3

Translation Tuning and Predictability in Eclipse - Part 3

Our users love the many inventive and time-saving things Eclipse does for them using what we call our "AI" features. Prefixes and suffixes attach and correctly adjust spelling, Auto-brief suggests easy-to-stroke briefs on the fly, conflicts resolve accurately, Translation Magic fixes multi-stroke misstrokes, numbers convert beautifully, and more. It's truly spectacular stuff.

In Part 3, Keith will dive deeply into the Prefixes and Suffixes areas in Eclipse, including the Integral Prefix/Suffix feature as it affects translation. This is another high-impact, high-usage feature, but also one that few delve into or adjust. Knowing how to add to or modify the Prefix and Suffix table can enhance your results substantially.

He'll follow that topic with a thorough examination of Auto-brief, a feature that cries out for synergy in order to effectively manage the behavior of a feature that has become almost a necessity for realtimers. Then, time permitting, he'll cover a few other items mentioned in Jeremy's overview.

Join Keith Vincent, author of the Visualizer videos in Eclipse, along with Michael Starkman and Jeremy Thorne as they show you how to get the most out of Eclipse!

Translation Tuning and Predictability in Eclipse - Part 4

Translation Tuning and Predictability in Eclipse - Part 4

Our users love the many inventive and time-saving things Eclipse does for them using what we call our "AI" features. Prefixes and suffixes attach and correctly adjust spelling, Auto-brief suggests easy-to-stroke briefs on the fly, conflicts resolve accurately, Translation Magic fixes multi-stroke misstrokes, numbers convert beautifully, and more. It's truly spectacular stuff.

In Part 4 Jeremy is going to cover the Probabilistic Features, those that will yield predictable but not absolutely certain results. Translation Magic, for example, a feature of almost miraculous proportions when viewed as a programming achievement, will guess right more often than it guesses wrong, but its incorrect guesses scare away some reporters. Conflict resolution is another that reporters may back away from, some because they have been told (or taught) that conflicts are a bad thing, always to be eliminated, and others because they don't understand how the feature works. But some conflicts will resolve correctly 100% of the time. The key is knowing which ones, and which others have a high degree of likelihood to yield accurate resolutions most of the time.

Harnessing the Power of Eclipse Macros, Part 1

Editing Macros - Rocket Fuel For Transcript Production

Live Webinar:     Tue, Mar 22nd, 2016 8:30 pm EST

Recording:          Yes, 10 days after live event occurs

Presented By:     Michael Starkman

Webinar Price:    $49

CEUs Available:   .2

Webinar Quick Overview

Macros are finally getting some overdue and well-deserved recognition. Long misunderstood and suspected of being too complicated, Eclipse professionals of all walks are learning to use macros when editing and when writing.

So what is a macro? Simply put, a macro is a shortcut. Think of it like you would a steno brief, a way to save strokes, only in this case you can save them on both keyboards, steno and computer. While editing transcript you can use macros to quickly insert or change speakers, advance your audio, quote a block of text, stitch words, underline, bold, or italicize text, and much more.

While writing, you might want to fix an untranslate, capitalize a group of words, job define words, fix or change punctuation, and more. In short, macros can do virtually anything you want them to do. The good news is that they are generally easy to create and, better yet, Eclipse comes with hundreds of them already written for you. How nice is that!

Michael Starkman & Keith Vincent are your presenters for this suite. Michael will cover Editing Macros and Keith will cover Steno Macros. If you're looking to get some extra mileage out of Eclipse, you should definitely sign up for these webinars.

Webinar Quick Overview

On three Wednesday evenings, October 22nd, November 5th, and November 19th, EclipseWebinars.com will present a series dedicated to the cloud. If you keep hearing about “the cloud” and aren’t sure what it is, you’re not alone. In a recent national survey, when asked what “the cloud” is, a majority responded it’s either a “fluffy white thing,” the sky, or something related to the weather (29 percent). Despite the confusion, 95% of all the respondents were actually using cloud services at the time of the survey via online shopping, banking, social networking, and file sharing. It’s likely you are, too, so there’s no reason to be scared. The key is to learn what it can do for you, as court reporters, and the answer is a lot!

Reporters can securely store transcripts in the cloud, or can share them with scopists, clients, firms, or colleagues. Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office 365, among others, are all cloud services. Reporters can also deliver realtime transcript via the cloud. Bridge Mobile, for example, uses a private cloud server to provide access anywhere clients can connect to the Internet.

Smartphone apps enable reporters to scan business cards, or even exhibits, and store them in the cloud till they need them later. Or you can use apps for keeping notes regarding the job, due dates, special requests from the attorneys, a spelling list of words that came up, and more.

And you can collaborate online. Google Docs, Office 365, and Eclipse allow reporters and editors to share and edit the same document online. And so on. The list is large and growing all the time. Join Michael, Wil, and Keith for three powerful webinars that help you understand the cloud and how to take advantage of it to make your job easier and more efficient.

Every reporter needs organization, but the process can be overwhelming. There’s so much to keep track of: job files, notes, audio files, exhibits, dictionaries, formats, include files, and more. The loss of your dictionary can have consequences that are almost unimaginable, and it’s no picnic to lose jobs or audio or anything else either.

Then there’s efficiency. We all want to save time, but reporters will deploy brute force, doing the same things over and over again, because they haven’t learned a faster way to get the task done. Join Michael for this webinar. He’s going to show you how to get it together, how to store and protect all your data, easily and efficiently.

Windows 8.1 For Court Reporters - Part 1

Live Webinar:     Thu, Jun 12th, 2014 8:30 pm EST

Recording:          Yes, 10 days after live event occurs

Presented By:     Wil Wilcox

Webinar Price:    $49

Webinar Quick Overview

Ask most court reporting professionals about Windows 8.1 and they’re likely to roll their eyes. After a rocky start, Microsoft’s latest Operating System is now starting to gain traction in the marketplace, but it still scares the dickens out of many within our profession. Wil Wilcox and Keith Vincent are presenting a two-part webinar that will assure you that this new version of Windows is not something to fear. Just the opposite, in fact. It offers wonderful features that every reporter will love.

Start with the startup and shutdown times. All of us have lost years of our lives waiting for Windows to boot up or close down. Not anymore. Depending upon the drive type and RAM memory installed, W8.1 boots in as little as 10-15 seconds and shuts down even faster. If you’ve ever had a program crash in the middle of a proceeding and had to wait what seemed like an eternity for Windows to restart, you know how big this is.

But it’s not just faster, it’s better. Windows 8.1 is actually two interfaces side by side. Most people think you have to live with the tiles you see in all the ads, but that’s not true. The venerable Windows desktop (and start button) that we’ve all worked with for years can be set as your default. So you can work with the new stuff if you have the time and the inclination (HINT: It’s probably a good idea since Microsoft isn’t going to move backwards.), but the main thing is you’ll boot into and work from the comfortable confines of the desktop you know so well.

But that desktop has been improved. You can use OneDrive from it to back up your files, set up a Microsoft account that allows you to sign into any of your W8.1 devices and have them use the same layout, apps, and settings, and you can work in up to four apps at the same time. And there’s a lot more. Join Wil and Keith as they walk you through the various elements of Windows 8.1, and show you how easy it is to use and what a powerful tool it can be.

Webinar Quick Overview

With so many people now carrying around a variety of tablets, smartphones, etc., it's only natural that realtime writers have been looking for an easy way to connect to these devices.  Bridge Mobile was designed to specifically meet that need.  Simply described, Bridge Mobile is the only realtime client program that works with virtually any CAT software and runs on virtually any device.  The CAT software must support either the Bridge or Caseview output protocol, which includes recent versions of Eclipse, CaseCATalyst, ProCAT, StenoCAT, DigitalCAT and AristoCAT.  The device must be able to run a web browser, which includes most computers, smartphones and tablets: iPhones, iPads, Android tablets, Mac computers, etc.

Learn about it from Keith Vincent on October 30 and November 6th, and earn .4 CEU in the process.

Webinar Quick Overview

If you’re a reporter or scopist cranking out judicial work and you’re not making full use of the Fill-In-The-Blanks feature, you’re wasting time and money.  It’s as simple as this:  Virtually any text that comes up repeatedly can be set up to appear automatically.  No more retyping names, days, months, places, etc.  You’ll save literally thousands upon thousands of keystrokes and be on to other things that much faster.  So save money and spend more time enjoying life instead of editing transcript.  Michael will show you how.

Webinar Quick Overview

The automatic index has always been the Holy Grail of transcript production.  Back when CAT software was young, Automatic Indexes were non-existent or very primitive.  Not anymore!  In Eclipse, you can build an index to suit almost any purpose.  It will generate automatically and completely bypass the drudgery of typing it up manually. “Yeah, but I’ve got to figure out how to make all that happen.”  We hear those “yeah, but” comments all the time and all we can say is the choice is yours:  Learn how to make your own automatic index or be forever doomed to endlessly typing them up manually.

Join Keith for an information-filled webinar.  It will start at 830p Eastern Time and last about two hours.  You can also watch the recording again later, which is very helpful for this kind of content. Our recordings play in a window with Pause, Rewind and Fast Forward controls so you can move back and forth between Eclipse and the recording as you try out the information presented.

Eclipse Automatic: Part 1 - AutoMagic

Live Webinar:     Wed, Feb 8th, 2012 8:30 pm EST

Presented By:     Keith Vincent

Webinar Price:    $49

CEUs Available:   .2

Webinar Quick Overview

You've probably heard this by now.  "AutoMagic" is a big breakthrough, a truly transformational feature introduced in Version 5 of Total Eclipse. Breakthrough, you say? Transformational? The natural response is to ask, "What is it and what will it do for me?" Will it make me richer and thinner, because you can't be "too" either of those. Will it make me soar like an eagle, shine like a full moon, roll like a rock star?

Not exactly. Sometimes you just need to use certain features in order to appreciate how truly revolutionary they are. But unless you start using it, and using it the right way, you'll never know. So while it may not make you richer, thinner, or shinier, we do know that this thought will hit you: Why would I ever NOT want to take advantage of AutoMagic?

It's like having a GPS built into Eclipse. Wherever you are, it knows what you're doing and suggests the ten most likely things you may need to do next. Well, we certainly don't want such great help to go to waste, which is why we're focusing on what AutoMagic can do for you.

Eclipse Automatic: Part 2 - AutoBrief

Live Webinar:     Wed, Feb 15th, 2012 8:30 pm EST

Recording:          Yes, Immediate

Presented By:     Michael Starkman

Webinar Price:    $49

CEUs Available:   .2

Webinar Quick Overview

"Autobrief" sounds like an alternative description for a Smart Car, but in reality it's an incredibly useful automatic brief system invented by Advantage Software's inimitable Jeremy Thorne. With AutoBrief on, Eclipse tracks your realtime writing and prompts you with briefs that you can use on the fly. In simple terms, when it sees unfamiliar terminology, it suggests a brief. Even better, the brief is immediately usable.  So if that brain surgeon or DNA expert is beating you up with long, complex terminology, well, AutoBrief to the rescue!  Voila! Up on your screen appears a brief for that 28-syllable, finger-twisting medical term so the next time Dr. Big Words utters that phrase, you're prepared.

But it doesn't have to be a ten on the steno-degree-of-difficulty scale for Autobrief to help out. Briefs for street names are always handy, or a brief for someone's odd, multi-syllable name, or a brief for some governmental agency the defendant worked at, or, well, you get the idea. The bottom line is this:  If you write realtime, Autobrief can help you write better.

Since it was first revealed over four years ago, AutoBrief has been continually improved, but Version 5 offers up phenomenal changes that allow you to control its suggestions like never before. So not only will we explore the basics of AutoBrief for those who have never used it, we'll also delve into the many enhancements to AutoBrief since its inception in 2007. These revisions help you get briefs tailored to your writing style, allow you to display more briefs on the screen, preserve and archive your briefs, color code the briefs, help you avoid unwanted briefs and more.  Whether you're brand new to this feature or a seasoned veteran, this is a webinar you do not want to miss.

Hyperkeys, Macros, Autoreplacements and Spacebar Commands. These are four of the most underutilized, yet incredibly powerful, features in Eclipse. So why aren't you using them? They'll save you incalculable amounts of time and take the effort out of editing. You're not alone. It is rare to find a user who knows about all four of them; rarer still to find one who knows how to take full advantage. But you can change that by joining us for  these webinars.

Good display settings are like the difference between a peephole and a picture window. When your screen isn't right, it strains your eyes, slows down your editing, gives you a headache, makes you grumpy, and probably alters your entire cosmic balance. Yet optimizing display settings is an amazingly elusive task for many. Keith is going fix that by showing you how to take control of your screen in both Windows and Eclipse. You'll learn how to zoom like a super hero, choose colors and fonts like a fashion designer, and use multiple windows and split screens like a maven. What's not to like?

Max Out Your Translation Accuracy In Eclipse - Part 1

Live Webinar:     Wed, Nov 17th, 2010 8:30 pm EST

Recording:          Yes, Immediate

Presented By:     Michael Starkman

Webinar Price:    $49

CEUs Available:   .2

Webinar Quick Overview

We recently conducted a survey and our respondents picked this topic as a close second to the Total Eclipse 5 Preview series. That's understandable since translation accuracy is fundamental and only good things can come from improving it. In this two-part suite, Michael is going to move through all the key parts of Eclipse that can improve your tran rates. Stacking errors are a constant headache.  He'll show you how to global them so they translate perfectly. Prefixes and suffixes stymie many users.  Michael's going to teach you how to correctly define them so they attach to root words and correctly adjust spelling. Just this feature alone will save you from having to global thousands of word variants. Alphabet strokes pain most reporters but they don't have to. Eclipse makes it much easier to fingerspell and Michael will cover how these alphabets should be defined and how to maximize your alphabets using the glue templates, a powerful feature most users aren't even aware of. The dictionary structure was completely revised for Version 4 and many users don't yet know how to take advantage of it. Michael's webinars will cover how to search out your most recent entries, your conflicts, your entries by stroke count (two-stroke, three-stroke, four-stroke, etc.), your entries by category (speakers, punctuation, etc.), and much more. You'll be able to use these tools to fine tune your dictionaries and rev up your tran rates. Numbers are a nemesis for many. Eclipse handles numbers beautifully and these webinars will review the core number entries every reporter needs in their dictionary, number bar strokes, written out numbers and the words related to numbers. You'll learn how to define them properly and get better results. Total Eclipse 5 has an inflected endings feature and Michael will show you how to take advantage of it. And much, much more. This is a webinar that will delight users who crave better tran rates and who want to learn more.

Every registrant is entitled to view the live webinar and the recording of it. The recordings are made available ten days after the live webinar occurs and are available for at least 90 days after the final part in the series is released. Registration is $49 per person per webinar, and .2 CEUs are available for each part, a total of .4 CEUs altogether.

Webinar Quick Overview

The next edition of Eclipse contains so many amazing enhancements and features the version number is moving all the way up to Total Eclipse 5. AutoMagic™ is easily the most important, and it is, without question, a programming tour de force. The challenge (one that has never even been tried before): Design a feature so intuitive it automatically suggests the most likely commands or options you might need as you work in any part of the software. Consider it done! AutoMagic™ is like having a compass built into your keyboard, guiding you every step of the way as you use Eclipse. Dazzling as it is, AutoMagic™ is just one of many new features and enhancements. There is a new document file format, a new location for your files, many tweaks and improvements to Auto-Brief™ and much, much more. As this new version is prepared for general release, we're confident you'll want to see it in action. So we've asked Keith Vincent and Jeremy Thorne to present a suite of webinars devoted to What's New in Total Eclipse 5. In Part 1, Keith presents a general introduction to help you get ready for Version 5. Because the new document file format is incompatible with previous versions, the program will install in a new location and you will be able to run both 5 and your earlier version. This is a big change and Keith shows you everything you need to know to prepare for it. Later, in Part 2, Jeremy will present a more in-depth exploration of the program, covering each feature in detail. The new version is truly revolutionary. It makes Eclipse more powerful and accessible than ever before. These are webinars every Eclipse user should plan to attend.

Those of you who have attended one of Jeremy's seminars in the past know that, in addition to his prodigious programming talents, he is also an accomplished speaker. He understands his subject material thoroughly (of course!) and delivers the information in a clear and understandable style. Eclipse users make this kind of comment all the time: "There are so many things in the software that I don't know about and I know they can help." It's true, reporters lead busy, deadlined lives and it's difficult at times to find time to explore the software. And there's this: Most reporters aren't mavens when it comes to software. They would prefer being shown how to implement new features rather than finding and figuring them out on their own.

Because numbers are, by definition, infinite in number, and because the rules and conventions that govern them are so varied and complex, users must devote some effort in order to properly understand the automatic conversion features and, in turn, to make the settings and dictionary entries that will gain them the results they seek. That's what this webinar suite is about.

Webinar Quick Overview

Most Eclipse users know their software can be fine tuned to hone in on their writing styles and to help them achieve better results but they don t know how to go about it. Or they ve done a little but want to do much more. So when asked, What do you wish you understood better within Total Eclipse?", many of our clients point to the Programming tab in User settings because they know that within it reside the means to personalize Eclipse and take its performance to new levels.

Each tab in the User settings dialog contains many controls and settings, but none holds as much as the Programming tab. Just the description alone Programming can be daunting and to many it exists as an unexplored wilderness of functions and features, untouched and untapped.

By now most Eclipse users and, for that matter, most of the court reporting world, have heard of Translation Magic™. This patent-pending technology is so revolutionary it seems to read your mind as it translates long or complex words and phrases that aren’t in your dictionary. A finely honed, well-maintained dictionary is essential to obtaining the best results from your CAT software, yet many users admit they're bewildered when they try to use the robust features built into the Eclipse dictionary system. They don't know how to efficiently search out the dead wood that lurks in nearly every dictionary-long-abandoned briefs, redundant and unnecessary items, and, of course, erroneous entries-and they don't know how to create new entries that take full advantage of the powerful Eclipse translator. In this webinar, Keith Vincent will share a wealth of dictionary tips and tricks gained from over 15 years of experience as an Eclipse user and instructor.

We continually ask Eclipse users what features they would like to understand better, and macro commands are on nearly everyone's list. Macros roll multiple editing steps into a single command. They're one of the most powerful editing features within Eclipse. Fortunately, there are many macros built into Eclipse already so you don't have to reinvent the wheel by creating them yourself. In fact, the Eclipse default macro set includes macros for almost every imaginable purpose and most of them were created by Keith Vincent. So we're pleased to have him explain them in this fantastic two-part webinar series.
